Latest version.
  • The election board or tally board shall immediately upon completion of the count also prepare a condensed abstract showing the number of ballots cast, the number rejected, and the number of votes cast for each candidate and for or against any proposed constitutional amendment or initiated or referred measure. The condensed abstract shall begin with the name of the precinct and shall contain only the surname of the candidate, beginning at the head of the ballot and running consecutively by offices without inserting the names of the offices, and the numbers of each proposed constitutional amendment and each initiated or referred measure, and shall be signed by the inspector and without delay delivered to the nearest telegraph or telephone station for immediate transmittal, if by telegraph, to the officer in charge of the election, or if by telephone, to that officer if a prompt connection can be secured, or to the chairman or secretary of the county committee of either of the two parties which cast the highest number of votes for state officers at the preceding election. If the condensed abstract is transmitted to one of the chairmen or secretaries, such chairman or secretary shall deliver the abstract to the officer in charge of the election at the earliest practicable moment, but he shall immediately make the abstract public.
